National policies and legislations guiding departmental activities
National Policies: Land Policy of 1995, Forest Policy of 1998, Bee keeping Policy of 1998, Environmental Policy of 2002, Tourism Policy of 200l;
URBAN PLANNING SECTOR
The main duties under this sector are described in the Urban Planning Act number 8 of 2007 however basic activities are;
Customer care,
To prepare of town planning drawings according to existing general planning scheme
To ensure the urban development is done to meet urban development standards
To receive applications for plots sub division and land use change.
LAND SURVEYING SECTOR
The main activities under this section are;
Customer cares
To conduct field work operations for cadastral survey
To compile field work data and cadastral maps
To settle land use conflict through plots boundary recovery
To store survey data records and use geographical information system (GIS) to manage land related information data in the administrative borders of the Council.
LAND ADMINISTRATION SECTOR
The main activities under this section are;
Customers care
To provide advice to all matters relating to management of land and resolve land disputes
To prepare legal documents related to land transactions
To enforce land development control including proposal to the President to revoke land titles to those owners who have violated development conditions.

To collect government revenue related to land transactions
VALUATION SECTOR
The main duties under this section are;
Customers care
To conduct property valuation for different purposes
To conduct research and document land values according to land market
To value and establish data bank relating to land and buildings
To facilitate the property tax collection in the council
NATURAL RESOURCES SECTOR
The main activities under this section are;
Customers care,
To collect tree seeds
To prepare tree nurseries
To ensure proper management of trees and forests found in the Municipal council
To collect all data relating to forests including measurement of forests,
To conduct research in forests and involve communities in the management of forestsand wildlife
To mobilize communities to form bee keeping groups as a key to poverty alleviation and environmental protection in and around of Iringa hills
To provide extension services
To disseminate knowledge of bee keeping to local communities in the council.
TOURISM SECTOR
The tourism Sector at the Iringa Municipality is liable to perform the following duties;
To identify and demarcate tourist attractions
To promote the identified tourist attractions
To corporate with tourism stakeholders in development of the industry
To provide tourist information to visitors
To ensure tourist are in safe hand and got quality services
